Must be a
Baptized and Confirmed practicing Catholic in good standing (i.e., without
impediments to service) in the Catholic Church. |
 |
Must be
properly trained and installed. |
 |
Pray over the
Sunday Mass readings. |
 |
At communion
time you are to receive communion as you come up the steps single file
from the priest. After receiving communion you walk to the Tabernacle to
receive the ciborium. |
 |
Once everyone
has received you may proceed to your assigned position. |
 |
If there are
ciboria on the altar, the priest will hand them to you. |
 |
When you
return the ciborium to the priest after communion, you do not bow in front
of the tabernacle. When Jesus is in your hands, in the ciborium, you do
not bow or genuflect! This likewise applies when you have a pyx in your
hands. You only bow when Jesus is no longer in your hands. |
 |
The Precious
Blood will now be distributed by two Eucharistic ministers--one each side
of the priests. Any remaining precious blood after communion is to be
consumed by the Eucharistic minister of the cup. If there is too much to
be consumed please ask another Eucharistic minister to help you consume
the rest. In the event of an accident regarding the spilling of the
precious blood, you are to stop what you are doing, place your purificator
over the spillage, go and take water from the cruet or other source, and
pour over the area where the precious blood was spilt until the water to
precious blood ratio is more than 50%. |
 |
In
distributing from the cup, make sure to wipe the rim of the cup with the
purificator after each person has received. |
 |
For Priests:
Wine is to be poured into cups prior to the consecration. The two priests
will give the precious blood to each of the Eucharistic ministers, then
the priests will bring the precious blood to the ministers of the cup
at communion time. For those who do not want to receive from the cup, they
are to cross their hands over their chests. |
 |
One may never
refuse communion to another Catholic, unless authorized by the bishop
(canon law). Communion can only be refused to non-Catholics. |
 |
After giving
communion, make sure to purify your fingers in the purification bowl. |
Ministering
to Homebound and Nursing Homes
 |
Names of
those Catholic receiving communion should be recorded at the office. |
 |
Unconsumed
hosts are to be consumed by the Eucharistic minister. |
 |
It is
forbidden to keep the Eucharist overnight in a home or in a pyx. |
 |
It is
forbidden to drive around and do errands with the Eucharist. One must go
to the home or nursing facility, consume the excess hosts, purify the
pyx and place it in a sacred place. |
 |
One purifies
one’s pyx by placing water into the pix, then drinking the water from
the pyx and then letting it dry. |
 |
Always bring
a purificator with you in the event of illness. If the person throws up
the host it is to be placed in the purificator then taken to the Church
to the priest for proper purification. |
 |
Only a pyx
and no other container is to be used for carrying the Body of Christ. |

 |
A new
purificator is to be placed on a chalice after each Mass. Purificators
are to be shaken over the Sacrarium and then placed in the laundry
basket. |
 |
A corporal
