Must
be a Baptized and Confirmed practicing Catholic in good standing (i.e.,
without impediments to service) in the Catholic Church. |
 |
Pray
and practice the readings during the week prior to proclaiming them. Make
sure you have the right readings. |
 |
Announcements
before Mass should be done early enough so as not to interfere with the
beginning of the Mass time. |
 |
The
Old Testament and New Testament Readings are read by a lector; the Gospel is
reserved to an ordained member of the clergy. |
 |
If
the alleluia is not sung, it is to be omitted. If one feels incapable
of singing it properly, one should omit it. It should never be recited,
only sung (Roman Sacramentary). |
 |
One
must face the lector and the priest during the reading, for the Word of God
is made present in the proclamation of the Word. Likewise, the homily by
virtue of the Sacrament of Ordination is considered part of the proclamation
of the Word, and so all are to face the bishop, priest or deacon. |
 |
Lectors
are to carry the book of the Gospels in for Sunday Masses and place it on
the stand on the altar. |
 |
After
reading from the lectionary, lectors are to put the lectionary in a place
that will not interfere with the placing of the book of Gospels on the ambo
(lectern). |
 |
After
Mass, the lector processes out with the priest. |
